Dinnerware Self- Reflection
1. I believe the strong parts of my projects are the details and lines of the project, because of the shear amount of time I spent putting detail into it. And although the details are nice they are not as good as I had hoped.
2. I could have done better overall, because of the amount of work and time I put into detail, that left me with little time and patience for the overall product, I believe had I been better rounded with detail and overall I would be much happier with it.
3. The theme was fishing and being out on the lake or ocean, having a good time with friends and family. The reason I chose this theme is because I enjoy doing so, and being out on the lake fishing feels a bit like freedom.
4. The details that brought my theme all together was the fish as the handle of the mug and the lures on the plate and the bowl being a replica of a wooden fishing boat. I really love the amount of detail on this fish and I believe it really reflects the theme.
5. The way balace and symmetry are used on my designs is typical for most dinnerware, My mug is asymetrical due to the handle and the plate is radial and the bowl is bilateral, all of these are for obvious reasons.
6. I learned that once again patience is a virtue, as I attempted to make a plate on the wheel, everytime it was slightly off, and I got more frustrated and the plate got more and more off center. And eventually I threw the whole thing of clay in the slip bucket, and gave up.
7. To design this I started by drawing up prelims, which for the most part came out that way in the end, the only thing I couldn't get to work was my plate idea, I wanted the plate to be two fish circling and that turned out to be too side heavy and kept falling apart.
8. I think it is a worthwhile project, I think that it worked out pretty well, but at the time that we made these, Mr. Purdy was gone and this really limited a lot of things and pointers would have been helpful, but since he was gone we were on our own.
